Biography:
Ty was born and raised in the Texas Panhandle, growing up in Dumas, Texas. As
a graduate student at West Texas A&M University, he worked for and
later managed the Cattleman’s Carcass Data Collection Service, collecting
carcass data in over 14 beef processing plants in the U.S. and Canada. He
was also involved in the 2000 National Beef Quality Audit and studied the
occurrences of carcass defects on the fed cattle population in the Texas
Panhandle as part of his master’s thesis. Ty received his PhD at
the University of Missouri. His dissertation work was focused on
the use of the antioxidant lipoid acid to improve beef quality and cattle
health. Ty joined the Department of Animal and Dairy Sciences at Mississippi
State University in 2007. Outside of work, he enjoys baseball (The
St. Louis Cardinals), studying World History, and spending time with his
wife and two children.
